Lara Vos (Borne, The Netherlands, 1969). After two years at the Design Academy in Eindhoven (The Netherlands) Lara leaves to study in the USA. In 1994 she graduates with honors at the Midwestern State University in Texas. She receives her bachelor degree in fine arts, majoring in sculpture and minoring in ceramics.
According to Richard Martin Ash III, Professor of Art/ Coordinator of Art, Midwestern State University, Texas, USA:
"Lara was a diligent performer in all of her studio courses and a student who developed a strong sense of craftsmanship and appreciation of three-dimensional form. She has a professional attitude and her concepts are focused as she demonstrates during her graduating senior exhibition. This body of work installed in December 1994 was an outstanding example of organisation and skill by an undergraduate.
A skilled welder, Lara ventures where her male counterparts seldom do with a tenacity that is rewarding for any instructor to observe. She willingly spends a tremendous amount of time in the studio producing work and aiding others in their development. Her European heritage and educational background is evident in the studio. I would rank her in the top five percent of our graduates in the past decade."
This success motivates Lara to train herself even further as a sculptor. At the Penland School of Crafts, North Carolina, USA, Lara enrolls in classes blacksmithing, bronze casting, jewellery making, enamelling and glass casting.
Back in the Netherlands, Lara exposes and sells her work in galleries throughout the country. She also welcomes visitors in her studio and gallery in Hengelo (NL).
